The electorate of Charlestown has secured $449,229 in funding for a total of 15 infrastructure projects through the NSW Government’s 2025 Community Building Partnership Program (CBP).
The $41 million program ensures local organisations and councils across the state have the facilities to support more vibrant and inclusive communities.
This year, the CBP grants will help bring to life a variety of projects across Charlestown, including $80,000 to upgrade the main playground at Charlestown South Public School, and $45,000 to update Meal on Wheels’ solar panel system.
The Community Building Partnership program has funded more than 22,400 community projects since it commenced in 2009.
Local not-for-profit community organisations and councils were eligible to apply for grants ranging from $10,000 to $100,000, with up to $450,000 allocated per electorate.
The full list of successful projects in the Charlestown electorate for the 2025 round are:
- Charlestown and District Meals on Wheels- $45,000 to update the solar system to include a battery system to help reduce the cost of electricity.
- PCYC Lake Macquarie- $25,000 to alter the reception counter to create more respectful interactions with children and those in wheelchairs.
- Charlestown District Cricket Club- $15,750 to repair and restore the turf wicket square in Kahibah Oval Training Facility.
- Merewether Golf Club- $40,260 to refurbish the 4th tee, including resurfacing and upgrading irrigation, retaining walls, and safety fencing.
- New Lambton Public School P&C Association- $30,112 to install shade sails over the playground to provide increased sun protection and active play for students.
- Valentine Eleebana Football Club- $39,028 to upgrade Eleebana Oval’s lighting to meet current Australian standards increase safety for evening sports activities.
- Trustees of Church Property for the Diocese of Newcastle- $24,980 to improve the Storm Water drainage to prevent loss usage of the outside areas and car park.
- Warners Bay Bowling Club- $12,870 to update the bowling greens irrigation system, and refurbish restrooms and children’s play safe equipment.
- Charlestown South Public School P&C Association- $80,000 to upgrade the main playground equipment and soft fall to prioritise inclusivity and safe play-based learning/
- Hillsborough Public School P&C Association- $10,000 to establish a Yarning Circle to create a culturally inclusive space for storytelling and connection for Indigenous students and the wider school community.
- Windale-Gateshead Bowling Club- $30,000 to construct a spectator deck with shade sails and a disabled access ramp to increase access to the clubs’ outdoor areas.
- Cardiff City Football Club- $12,500 to purchase roll-away goals for the Evans Park facility to increase community safety at the club.
- Garden Suburb Public School P&C Association- $14,679 to install artificial turf under the COLA and a dry creek bed for nature play to create safer and more engaging outdoor education opportunities.
- Dudley Public School P&C Association- $59,050 to install shade sails over the sandpit, play, and seated area to provide increased sun protection and active play for students.
- Uniting Preschool Adamstown Heights- $10,000 to convert the current resource room into a ‘Calming Cove’ endorsed by occupational therapists to support the children’s emotional regulation and sense of calm.
